Cannabis Eradication Program stops $14 million of cannabis hitting the streets
February 23, 2018. More than 7200 cannabis plants have been seized by police as part of this year's Cannabis Eradication Program (CEP) in the state's north. The CEP is an annual operation, led by detectives from the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad, which targets outdoor cultivation of cannabis in Northern NSW. Detectives were assisted by police from Richmond, Mid North Coast, Tweed/Byron and Coffs/Clarence Police Districts, as well as PolAir, the Dog Unit, and other specialist units. During this season's program, police seized 7221 plants, with an estimated potential street value of $14,442,000. Many of the crops were growing in dense bushland, and often located on Crown Land. Seagull Released After Being Stuck in Kmart For Three Days
Wildlife rescuer Nigel Williamson was called out to a Carrums Downs shopping centre to catch and release a pesky seagull, which had been stuck inside a Kmart for three days. In a video posted to Facebook on February 22, Williamson released the bird into the carpark of the shopping centre, where it squawked and flew away without a second glance.
