Jason Kelce: Lack of accountability at root of Eagles’ struggles - ESPNEagles center Jason Kelce has seen a drop in accountability from last year’s Super Bowl team , brought on in part by the departure of some key veterans. Speaking about what is ailing the 4-5 Eagles, Kelce offered an extensive, nuanced response during a conversation with reporters following Wednesday’s practice that kept returning to a central theme -- accountability. ”Last year, it just seemed like everybody was clicking. We had guys like Brent Celek who had been here a long time who was very accountable, Torrey Smith who had been in the league for a long time, very accountable. Mack Hollins was a guy that gave great effort. LeGarrette Blount and all of these running backs that, they had their limited amount of stuff that they had to know, but they knew what to do, and they knew how to do those things. That’s what we’re missing. We’re missing that accountability.”Halapoulivaati Vaitai impacts Eagles offense negatively in a number of ways - BGNMy thoughts on Vaitai are well documented. I don’t believe him to be a starting caliber player nor close to it. The Eagles certainly recognize his faults; you can tell this by the way they game-planned around him against the Cowboys. Removing the six screen passes from the equation, Carson Wentz dropped back 41 times last Sunday night. Vaitai was given aid in the way of tight end/running back blocks or chips on 13 of those snaps. Essentially one-third of non-screen drop-backs have some sort of built-in component to help Vaitai. That’s not counting the bevy of RPO calls that facilitate a fast release. The QB Scho Show #2: The Wizardry of Drew Brees - BGN RadioMichael Kist is joined by Mark Schofield as they break down the upcoming enemy quarterback that the Eagles will be tasked with shutting down every week.. This week, the crew gushes over future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees and what he and the Saints bring to the table. PLUS a special Kist & Solak 40.5, capturing the post-recording chat late on Sunday night with Michael Kist and Benjamin Solak.Eagles vs. Saints: Five matchups to watch - PhillyVoiceAgainst the Cowboys last week, the Eagles faced a great pass rusher in Demarcus Lawrence, who primarily lines up opposite the right tackle. This Sunday, they’ll face another great (and underrated) pass rusher in Cameron Jordan, who has 6 sacks this season, and had 13 sacks in 2017. ”Cam Jordan is a tremendous pass rusher,” Doug Pederson said on Wednesday. “One of the elite guys in this league. They’ll line him up pretty much anywhere on the D-line.”While they do move him around, as Pederson noted, Jordan will see the bulk of his snaps at LDE up against Johnson or Vaitai, depending on Johnson’s availability. And once again Youth Dallas Goedert Jersey , whether it’s Vaitai or a less than 100 percent Johnson, the Eagles would be wise to give their right tackle additional help.Enough - Iggles BlitzVent. Be mad. Get it out of your system. But we’ve got seven games left. We’re going to be talking about the Eagles for months. Not every discussion can be a total bitchfest about how half the coaches should be fired and half the players should be cut. There will be changes in the offseason. There will be a lot of players going (age and money are going to be huge factors). Pederson may decide to shake up his staff. But I certainly don’t expect anything major. In The End, Eagles Must Find A Way To Beat Saints - PE.comWhen a team is winning games, as the Eagles did last season in dominating fashion, it is sometimes easy to overlook some of the smaller details. But when a team is 4-5, more intense self-reflection is required. A deep dive into the football soul, if you will. Head coach Doug Pederson talked about it in his Wednesday morning press conference at the NovaCare Complex and, as usual, he was upbeat and positive. That’s not going to change. Pederson believes in positive reinforcement in the public setting. He’s demanding of his players, but he’s going to always have their backs.Josh Adams’ impressive play has earned the Central Bucks South product more playing time with Eagles - Daily NewsAdams is a big back – 6-2 and 225 pounds. That size can be a detriment for a running back, but Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley didn’t feel it would be a problem for Adams. ”He was a big back who could bend and burst and explode,’’ Staley said. “One of the things I look for when I’m scouting is, can a guy bend and burst? Because when a guy’s 6-1, 6-2, you’re thinking it’s hard for him to get down. But not Josh. You go back and watch film on him [at Notre Dame], one of the things that intrigued me was his ability to lower his pad level and still get yards. Because if you can’t get your pads down, you’re going to have a short career.’’All-22: Coaching or execution? What the film reveals about the state of the Eagles - The AthleticIt’s not one thing that is going wrong. The coaches need to do a better job of evaluating their personnel and putting guys in position to succeed. The leaders need to step up and help get the young guys prepared. And yes, everyone needs to execute better in critical spots.
Accomplishing all that at this point is a big ask, but with four games remaining against division opponents, including two against Washington, the season doesn’t necessarily have to be over. Going into the final seven games , winning the NFC East at 9-7 feels like the best-case realistic outcome.Alshon Jeffery on new Sixers star Jimmy Butler: ‘Philly’s gonna love Jimmy. Jimmy’s gonna love Philly.’ - PennLiveJeffery thinks Butler is made for that, and he thinks his old friend from Chicago will fit right in in his new city. “I mean, I think he’s got the attitude,” Jeffery said. “He’s gonna play hard. Philly’s gonna love Jimmy. Jimmy’s gonna love Philly.”New Orleans vs. Philadelphia Matchups: Saints offense vs. Eagles defense - Canal Street ChroniclesExpect the Eagles to try and keep their best and healthiest defensive backs on Michael Thomas, who has consistently beaten every coverage scheme he’s faced over the last two seasons. If the Eagles are somehow able to minimize the damage that Thomas has been able to do, then the onus will fall on the other Saints receivers to produce, an area that where the offense has been somewhat inconsistent.Leighton Vander Esch named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week after dominating performance in Philly - Blogging The BoysWhen the Dallas Cowboys drafted Leighton Vander Esch with their first-round selection back in April there were many who questioned the move. Nine games into the season, the Cowboys look like geniuses. Vander Esch has continued to impress week after week and put on the finest performance of his young career during last week’s win in Philadelphia. It was such a top-notch game by LVE that he’s been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week!Ex-Giant Jason Pierre-Paul promises “I’m bringing the house down” on Sunday - Big Blue View“Honestly, I had this game checked off since I left there, so emotions running big. I’m coming, man. I’m bringing the house down,” was Pierre-Paul’s full quote. Hopkins likes Beckham's determination and grit Deshaun Watson Jersey , and sees similarities between himself and the New York star."Of course. He makes plays no matter where the ball is," Hopkins said. "He's not the tallest, I'm not the tallest, but he (goes) up and gets it. He just makes plays."Beckham is a fan of Hopkins and said he has been admiring him since he was in college."I love his game," Beckham said. "I remember when we were playing them here and he had that catch against Prince (Amukamara) down the field and they called it back. Trust me, I have been watching him, watching him a long time."Houston defensive end J.J. Watt raved about the knack both players have for making difficult catches look easy."I know they both can catch anything you throw their way," he said. "I know they both find a way to get open and find a way to make catches that 99 percent of people wouldn't be able to make, so they're obviously special playmakers, both of them."Hopkins has 188 yards receiving with a touchdown this season and Beckham has 162 yards receiving. Giants coach Pat Shurmur noted that 6-foot-1 Hopkins is a bit bigger than the 5-11 Beckham, but also sees many of the same qualities in the two receivers."Their production can be similar in a lot of ways (and) I think they've got a lot of similar traits in terms of their competitive nature Youth Kareem Jackson Jersey , their spirit, their ability to win their one-on-one matchups. There's really a lot of similarities. I think Hopkins is a little bit bigger, if I'm not mistaken, but for the most part, they're very similar guys."Both teams will be looking for a big game from their star receivers to avoid falling into an 0-3 hole. The Texans lost to Tennessee 20-17 last week and the Giants fell to the Cowboys 20-13.Some things to know about New York's game against Houston:BARKLEY'S RECEIVINGNew York running back Saquon Barkley set a franchise record with 14 receptions last week against the Cowboys and tied the NFL mark for most catches by a rookie. The second overall pick in this year's draft was asked if getting that many catches was a surprise."If any running back told you that he expected to have 14 catches in a game, he'll be lying to you," he said. "So obviously I did not expect that, but ... (the) Dallas Cowboys did a great job defensively taking away the deep threats and as a quarterback you got to go through your progressions and sometimes you go through your progressions and there's a check down to your running back. It just happened to be more times this game."Houston defensive end Jadeveon Clowney raved about the young running back."He catches all the balls for them," he said. "He does everything for them. He's a very versatile back. He can catch it, run it. There's nothing the guy can't do. It's going to take a whole team effort to get him down on the ground."SEARCHING FOR A SACKWatt had a solid performance last week in his second game since sitting out the final 11 games last year after breaking his leg, recording two tackles for losses and forcing a fumble. But the player who has twice led the NFL in sacks in his career still hasn't taken down the quarterback this season. It's been more than two years since Watt last recorded a sack after he also missed 13 games in 2016 because of a back problem. His last sack came Sept. 18 , 2016, when he had 1 1/2 against the Chiefs. He joked about needing to up his game since nose tackle D.J. Reader already has two this season."He leads the team in sacks from the nose guard position, so I need to start doing my job a little better," Watt said.INJURY WATCHThere are definite areas of concern for the Giants.
Veteran John Greco is now the starting center. He replaces Jon Halapio, who broke his lower right leg and ankle last week. LB Olivier Vernon (ankle) has not played this season and is not full speed. Without their best pass rusher, New York has one sack this season. The biggest weakness might be at cornerback with starter Eli Apple nursing a hamstring. B.W. Webb replaced him in the third quarter and the Cowboys went after him. Expect the Texans to do the same with Will Fuller and Hopkins.AP Sports Writer Tom Canavan in East Rutherford, New Jersey, contributed to this report. The Texans finally played an entire game where they never let up. Rather than hang around and run and run and run and run and wait for it to end, allowing the other team to come back, Houston went for it. Deshaun Watson threw two big touchdown passes—one to Will Fuller V off play-action, and the other to DeAndre Hopkins against busted zone coverage. At that point DeAndre Hopkins Jersey , the game was 35-17. It was over. It was a hill impossible for the Savannah galloping giraffe to churn up. Flat lands or downhill; that’s the only way he can move. Before that, the game was strange yet expected at the same time. The Dolphins threw a ton of short passes, and sometimes they worked, but usually they didn’t. The surprise was how well they ran the ball. Both Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore picked up more than anyone ever does against the best run defense in football. Lamar Miller also broke some deep runs and followed up his best game since Week 16 in 2016 with his best game since last week. The refs stole another thrumble from us and an under-the-legs Vince Carter slam dunk catch by DeAndre Hopkins. There was a wide receiver touchdown pass by Danny Amendola. There was an absurd ping-pong pass by [NAME REDACTED] where the ball was forced out of Jakeem Grant’s hands, into the defensive back’s shoulder pads, and somehow caromed over to DeVante Parker. It was some real bottle spinning. As much fun as it all was, the most important part was Deshaun Watson. It was another game without a turnover. The pass protection was once again pretty good. He was cloistered and wasn’t smashed around. In the red zone, Watson used his mobility to turn something into nothing and created open throwing lanes with some good pocket seeping. As long as he stays upright and continues to get healthy, Houston will be ready to reach its peak and play to its talent level once the weather really gets cold. Houston plays the Broncos next Sunday at 3:05 p.m. when they visit another ex-girlfriend in Case Keenum.

I had moved the event to Saturday morning Youth Sean Davis Jersey , but after minimal success, I decided to bring it back to Friday night — with a slight twist.I liked the Saturday Six-Pack theme, so I decided to just take the six questions and move them to Friday night. Say hello to Friday Night Six-Pack of Steelers Questions and open thread! The rules haven’t changed...Quick rundown of the ground rules.I’ll ask at least four questions strictly related to the Steelers. The rest of the questions could be about anything.Be respectful.Have fun talking about the Black-and-gold.That’s it! With that out of the way, it’s time to get this party started. Hey, don’t act like you’ve never done a little Friday night drinking. Here goes:1. Who wins the following games:Cleveland @ Tampa BayNew Orleans @ BaltimoreCincinnati @ Kansas City2. Are you now a believer in the Steelers? If not, explain what would need to take place before you believe again. 3. OVER/UNDER number of TD passes Patrick Mahomes has vs. the Bengals: 34. Predict the winner of the Steelers’ next three games:Week 8 - vs. ClevelandWeek 9 - at BaltimoreWeek 10 - vs. Carolina (TNF)5. Clearly fines don’t change Vontaze Burfict’s behavior. If you were Roger Goodell, and try to be as unbiased as possible, what would your punishment for Burfict be? Explain your reasoning.6. The trade deadline is looming. If you were to draw up a REALISTIC trade, who would be coming and going? No matter what, always remember...HERE WE GO STEELERS!PODCASTS10 things I think I thought after the Steelers tie with the Browns Not living in the center of Steelers country, this afternoon was spent at a local wings joint. My seat was comfy beside my beautiful wife. The view was fine and the wings plenty tasty, but there was no sound for the game. As such , I found myself providing my own play-by-play and determined to share a few of my thoughts along the way.1. Offensive lineman don’t get enough credit. It’s true enough that LeVeon Bell has great skills. It’s also true that he has a great line in front of him. But it’s not an accident that DeAngelo Williams was able to do so well during Bell’s suspension a few years back. Nor is it a great surprise that James Conner did so well on Sunday. More on that later but, in truth, successful running depends more on successful blocking than we can possibly imagine.2. Keith Butler needs to explain to Bud Dupree the purpose of football. Early on especially, it looked like someone told Bud the goal was to beat the opposing left tackle to the unguarded end zone. Perhaps when Butler said, “Don’t let anyone get around you” Bud heard, “Don’t let anyone get behind you.”3. The secondary looked good. Tyrod Taylor is no elite quarterback, but his wideouts are no slouches. Most of the sacks we racked up owe an awful lot to the coverage. That’s a good sign of things to come. In addition, so much of our weakness in tackling last season could be laid at the feet of DB’s bouncing off of ball carriers while in search of the big hit.
For the most part in Cleveland, they seemed to grasp that the goal was to end the play rather than the player.4. I thought it strange that having acquired Ryan Switzer to relieve AB of punt-return duties (welcome and thank you Ryan) they would employ AB as a gunner on that surprise first- down punt that Ben launched. Nevertheless, AB was there to bring the return man down and for that I’m grateful.5. How is it that James Conner and the O-line can rack up more than 120 yards in regulation and next to nothing in overtime? Don’t both sides get tired at pretty much the same rate? In one sense, isn’t the defense supposed to get weary faster? What happened to the run game?6. It was good to see Ike Taylor able to stay connected to the game by taking a job as a game official. Sadly, he had as much trouble holding on to his flag as he used to have holding on to the ball.7. I was grateful for Randy Fichter Cheap Ben Roethlisberger Jersey , as the Steelers, nursing a 7 point lead deep in the fourth quarter, dialed up a pass play for a first down. Finally, an OC that plays to win rather than not to lose. Then Ben coughed it up and, suddenly, I missed Todd Haley. 8. I’d give T.J. Watt a 9. It looked like he could have used one. (If you didn’t notice, throughout the game Watt lost the ‘9’ on the front of his helmet and was sporting nothing but a ‘0’)9. We should give thanks for Conner’s fumble. Had he not done so, he likely would have been canonized by Yinzer faithful. He did great, of course, but Heinz Field isn’t quite ready to become Saint James Place.10. I’m a grateful man to have my beautiful wife cheering on the Steelers beside me. She’s a passionate fan but also gracious enough to be happy for Browns fans, whose losing streak finally ended. Here’s hoping next week they end their non-winning streak. Custom Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys

HOUSTON — With shortstop Carlos Correa battling what was described as back stiffness Womens Luke Kunin Jersey , Astros manager A.J. Hinch opted to keep Correa out of the lineup Tuesday against Toronto.

Correa, batting .268 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs, missed his eighth game of the season. Hinch is an advocate of resting his primary regulars and with Houston playing a day game Wednesday following their 7-0 victory Tuesday night, he opted to give Correa a break with the club also facing a grueling stretch of play over the coming weeks.

“We’re playing 23 out of 24 days. We’re in the midst of the grind of the season before the All-Star break and I’m always looking for a day off,” Hinch said. “We’ve talked about rest for the better part of the last couple of weeks. There’s another day coming probably for him and there’s probably another day off for George (Springer), maybe even one for Jose (Altuve) before the break. All of that added up, it made for an easy (decision) not to play him.”

Left-hander Dallas Keuchel (4-8, 3.90 ERA) will start the series finale for the Astros (53-28).

Keuchel posted his second consecutive start without allowing an earned run on June 22 against the Kansas City Royals, surrendering six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings. He is 3-0 with a 3.62 ERA over four career starts against the Blue Jays, last facing Toronto on May 15, 2015, and allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings in an 8-4 home victory.

Right-hander Marco Estrada (4-7, 4.48 ERA) will start the rubber match for Toronto (37-42). Estrada has pitched exceptionally this month, going 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA and 26 strikeouts over four starts and 25 2/3 innings while limiting opposing batters to a .510 OPS. He is 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA over 12 career appearances (six starts) against Houston.

Blue Jays All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson experienced a setback while rehabbing the left calf injury that landed him on the 10-day disabled list May 29. Donaldson was preparing to play in a rehab game in Florida and sustained an injury while taking ground balls. An MRI revealed an acute strain of the left calf, and Donaldson will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Donaldson was trending toward a return to action , perhaps as soon as this weekend against the Detroit Tigers. He has suffered through a largely lost season, logging 36 games with five home runs and 16 RBIs. Donaldson missed his 25th consecutive game Tuesday and 43rd overall this season, with the Blue Jays dropping to 21-22 without him in their lineup.

Donaldson, a free agent following the season, could be a trade chip at the non-waiver deadline next month, but his injury situation leaves that immediate future murky at best.

“The previous week we thought there was a chance,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. “He was moving along fine and then something happened. What are you going to do?

“It’s been a frustrating year for him. He’s actually hanging in there OK considering. But he’s frustrated.”

In a showdown of All-Star sluggers, Nelson Cruz had more RBIs, but J.D. Martinez had more help.

Martinez homered and drove in five, and the Boston Red Sox rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 14-10 on Friday despite a monster night from Cruz.

Cruz had a pair of three-run homers and drove in seven, but the Mariners still lost their season-worst fifth straight game, including three earlier this week at Yankee Stadium. Seattle led 4-0 and 10-5 before a wild Red Sox rally fueled by RBIs from eight different players.

”That’s some fight. We’ve got a great group in here and that was a good one for us,” said Mitch Moreland, who had three hits including a triple as the Red Sox set a season-high with 20 hits.

Martinez went 4 for 5, including a two-run homer in the sixth and two doubles as he and his teammates avenged a 1-0 loss at Seattle against Wade LeBlanc six days earlier. LeBlanc started again Friday but did not fare so well in Boston.

”He pitched a great game against us last time. We all had a little chip on our shoulder coming into today Zach Parise Jersey ,” said Martinez, who has 23 homers.

Reliever Matt Barnes (1-2) got the win with one scoreless inning, and Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth.

Juan Nicasio (1-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in one-third of a lousy seventh inning.

”We were in control after a crazy first inning. We banged it around and they banged it around some, but our guys kept tacking on there. Just couldn’t hold them off at the end,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said.

The only flaw to the second half of the game for Boston: shortstop Xander Bogaerts left in the seventh with a sprained index finger on his left hand.

After Cruz put Seattle up 3-0 in the first with his 19th home run, Ryon Healy added a solo shot during Seattle’s four-run first inning as the Mariners got to knuckleballer Steven Wright. Seattle added two more off Wright in the second after Boston’s five-run bottom of the first.

Despite allowing 10 runs on 10 hits, Wright got a no-decision.

”I might go buy a lottery ticket now because that never happens,” Wright said.

Seattle scored four in the fourth, including Cruz’s second shot of the game, but Boston’s bullpen shut down Seattle the rest of the way while the Mariners’ imploded.

”Tough one,” Cruz said. ”It’s a shame because the pitchers have been doing a really good job. They’ve been throwing the ball with consistence, but it happens.”

Rafael Devers singled in a run in the fifth, and then Martinez homered off Nick Vincent to center in the sixth to pull Boston within 10-8. Mitch Moreland followed with a triple just beyond the reach of diving right fielder Mitch Haniger, and Bogaerts drove in Moreland with an infield single

Barnes struck out the side in the seventh Carey Price Jersey , and then Boston got to Nicasio. Devers singled to lead off, Blake Swihart singled with one out and Nicasio walked Mookie Betts to load the bases. Andrew Benintendi blooped a single into shallow center to bring in Devers and tie it at 10.

Swihart was nearly picked off third as Benintendi scored, but he slid under the tag after a strong throw by center fielder Guillermo Heredia. Seattle did not challenge the close play, and Martinez followed with a two-run single.

Nick Rumbelow later allowed Benintendi to score on a wild pitch, and Eduardo Nunez added a pinch-hit RBI single.

The Red Sox have come from behind in 22 of their 51 wins. The 14 runs tied their season scoring high and the 20 hits were four more than they had in a game this season.

”It was a weird game,” Benintendi said. ”It’d be easy to give up in that situation and just kind of coast through the game, but we kept fighting and putting good at-bats together all throughout the lineup.”

Mariners: Activated RHP Vincent (strained right groin) from the 10-day DL and optioned RHP Ryan Cook to Triple-A Tacoma.

Red Sox: Benintendi needed a minute to collect himself after running hard into the Green Monster on a double by Denard Span.

Mariners: RHP Mike Leake (7-4, 4.47 ERA) gets his second straight start against the Red Sox after taking the loss Sunday in Seattle, allowing five runs on eighth hits in six innings.

Red Sox: LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (9-1, 3.59) has won a career-high six straight starts, including Boston’s 9-3 victory over the Mariners in Seattle on Sunday.

The Padres bullpen has stepped up to fill a hole in San Diego’s rotation.

Eric Hosmer homered Adrian Kempe Jersey , San Diego’s bullpen took a perfect game into the sixth inning and the Padres beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Tuesday night for their 10th win in 14 games.

This was the third bullpen game for San Diego this season, all since left-hander Joey Lucchesi went down with a right hip strain.

”These guys are all built to kind of grind through a lineup one time or cruise through a lineup or attack a lineup one time through,” Padres manager Andy Green said. ”They’re all built for nine batters pretty easily or 10 batters so it just makes sense to give them those types of pieces of a lineup for a first time through and keep hitters uncomfortable. I like it.”

Padres reliever Matt Strahm started the bullpen game and retired nine batters on 36 pitches, including four strikeouts. Adam Cimber (3-2) retired the next six with two strikeouts before Harrison Bader broke up the perfect game with an infield single in the sixth. Bader was promptly erased in a double play.

”In that situation, I know on a bullpen day, me coming in the fourth inning I’m probably looked at to get at least a few (innings),” Cimber said. ”You still take it one hitter at a time.”

Strahm, a lefty, and Cimber Youth Dion Phaneuf Jersey , a submarine righty, make a stark contrast for opposing hitters.

”It’s the opposite end of the spectrum,” Strahm said. ”He’s down on the right and I’m up on the left. It’s a good combo to come in.”

The Padres’ nine-man bullpen makes the starter-by-committee approach effective. Green said he plans to go with it again Sunday.

”We’ve got seven arms available,” Green said. ”I’m going to guess that’s more arms available than almost every team in major league baseball, so it’s not putting the stress on our bullpen that a lot of people presume it is.”

Brad Hand pitched the ninth for his 20th save.

Hosmer drove the first pitch of the fourth inning to center field to give the Padres a 1-0 lead. It was his second home run in three games.

A.J. Ellis tacked on two more with a two-out hit in the fourth. The Cardinals challenged the safe call on the second run, but replay showed the Freddy Galvis beat catcher Yadier Molina’s tag at home plate.

”Basically the first strike you see you want to be aggressive,” Ellis said. ”I found a pitch to find a hole on.”

Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas (7-2) struck out five in six innings and walked none. He has walked one or less in all seven of his home starts this season, but St. Louis still lost for the second time in three games.

”I felt like my stuff was pretty good today,” Mikolas said. ”I made some pretty good pitches. I think the ball Hosmer hit was a decent pitch.”

Marcell Ozuna’s RBI single snapped the Padres’ shutout bid in the seventh. Ozuna has driven in five runs in his last four games.

”I thought our offense did a pretty good job of getting some things rolling toward the end of the game Dustin Brown Jersey ,” Bader said. ”Just today, it just showed up a little too late.”

Padres: OF Franchy Cordero (right forearm strain) took batting practice and hopes to begin a rehab in a couple of days.

Cardinals: RHP Matt Bowman (right hand blisters) gave up a run in two innings Monday at Triple-A Memphis and could be activated by the end of the week.

Cardinals RHP Luke Weaver (3-5, 4.35 ERA) will get the start in the series finale against the Padres and LHP Eric Lauer (2-4, 6.64 ERA) on Wednesday at 7:15 CDT. Weaver has not allowed a run in 12 innings (two career starts) against San Diego. Lauer gave up six runs in 2 1/3 innings against St. Louis on May 11.

The Pittsburgh Pirates might want to scratch out a scouting report on Brent Suter — as a hitter — before their series finale Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park.

Suter is strong enough on the mound. The left-hander is 7-4 with a 4.30 ERA going into his expected start against the Pirates, and over his past six starts he is 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA.

That includes a 13-2 win over Philadelphia Friday, when Suter allowed one run and six hits while tying a career high with seven innings pitched. But he seemed more excited about what he did at the plate in that game.

Suter drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, reached on an error and singled in a run in his three plate appearances against the Phillies.

“I feel locked in at the plate,” he said. “I’m a little late on fastballs, but I’m seeing the ball well. I’m seeing offspeed down. Any way you can help your team win is a good way to help your team win.”

Suter is 3-for-10 since he hit a 433-foot homer off American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber May 9. He was 4-for-28 before that Jonathan Quick Jersey , including 1-for-8 this season.

“There’s a confidence there,” Suter said. “Hitting is one of my favorite parts. I love hitting. I’ve loved it my whole life. Even when I’m struggling, I still like going up there and trying to whack it.”

As for his “day job,” Suter will be trying to help the Brewers (43-30) take the series and keep hold of first place in the National League Central.

Milwaukee won 3-2 Tuesday to end a three-game losing streak.

Pittsburgh (36-37) had won four of five before Tuesday and will be trying to win its second straight series after losing eight in a row.

Suter will oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Chad Kuhl (5-4, 3.76 ERA).

In his past five starts, Kuhl has allowed eight earned runs in 30 1/3 innings. Over his past eight starts, he has a 2.89 ERA.

Part of his recent success is tied to mixing in a lot of breaking balls.

“It’s a heater-hunting league, especially when you throw a hard heater. Guys are trying to hit the heater, it’s no secret Tobias Rieder Jersey ,” Kuhl said. “Throwing that 1/8slider 3/8 a ton. Feel really comfortable with it. It’s gotten me out of some really big jams, gotten me some strikeouts and some early action. It kind of does both for me. Just being able to throw that in any count has been huge.”

Against Milwaukee, Kuhl is 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA, and the Pirates are 6-0 in his starts. This season, he gave up one hit and tied a career high with eight strikeouts over seven scoreless innings May 6 in a 9-0 win.

“When you know you’ve had success and remember some pitches that may have worked for you, you’re able to use that to your advantage, but every game is different,” Kuhl said.

Suter is 1-0 with 1.80 ERA in eight games — three starts — against the Pirates.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said he’ll be ready for Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game at Philadelphia after missing Tuesday’s practice for personal reasons.

Ryan was back with the team for Wednesday’s practice. He didn’t disclose details of his absence Joonas Donskoi Jersey , but indicated he was attending to a family matter.

”I just want to thank everybody for their support and outreach. It means a lot to me,” Ryan said. ”I’ve always tried to keep my family life private and I hope you can respect that and I’d like to continue to do that moving forward.”

Ryan and his wife, Sarah, announced in November they expect to become first-time parents in April with twins.

Coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday there were ”no setbacks for him or for us” due to Ryan’s excused absence on Tuesday, when the game plan was installed.

”He is one of the best competitors and most professional ballplayers I’ve ever been around, so no adjustment for that,” Quinn said. ”We’re fortunate he’s back here today and back into it.”

Ryan attended Tuesday’s team meeting before missing practice.

”I was able to get the game plan and kind of get the information I needed yesterday,” Ryan said. ”I’ll be very well prepared for the game on Saturday.”

The Eagles (13-3) are the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Falcons (11-6) beat the Los Angeles Rams 26-13 in a wild-card game last week.

For Ryan, a native of Philadelphia, Saturday’s game is a homecoming.

”I’m used to it now,” he said. ”… The one nice part is there will be a lot of familiar faces, friendly faces after the game Patrick Roy Jersey , which is always nice.”

Ryan hasn’t missed a game since Week 15 of the 2009 season, so Tuesday’s practice without the 10-year veteran was unusual.

”It was different,” said center Alex Mack. ”He’s a very consistent part and staple of this team. I’m glad he’s back today and we’ll move forward.”

Veteran backup Matt Schaub took Ryan’s place in practice on Tuesday.

Ryan is trying to lead the Falcons to a repeat Super Bowl appearance after last year’s loss to New England.

Ryan was the NFL MVP in 2016, when he threw 38 touchdown passes with only seven interceptions. He has reached 4,000 yards passing for the seventh straight season, but he passed for only 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in the regular season. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 218 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the win over the Rams.

NOTES: Quinn strongly denied speculation that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkasian might make a lateral move to Seattle to head the Seahawks’ offense. Sarkasian and Seattle coach Pete Carroll worked together at Southern Cal. ”Zero chance of that,” Quinn said. … For the second straight day, WR Julio Jones (ankle) did not participate in practice. It has not been unusual for Jones to miss practices early in the week this season but he has not missed a game. … RB Devonta Freeman (knee), LB LaRoy Reynolds (knee) and WR Mohamed Sanu (knee) were limited.

Miguel Cabrera ruptured his left biceps tendon Tuesday night, an injury that will sideline the slugger for the rest of the season, and the Detroit Tigers lost 6-4 to the Minnesota Twins.

The two-time AL MVP will have surgery this week, the Tigers said. Cabrera Womens Samuel Girard Jersey , playing his 12th game since missing 26 with a hamstring strain, exited in the third inning and underwent an MRI during the game.

Ehire Adrianza hit his first career grand slam to help Minnesota rally. Ryan Pressly (1-1) got three outs for the win, and Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth for his 14th save.

Louis Coleman (3-1) was charged with the loss.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Evan Gattis hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs, Carlos Correa returned from a four-game absence and homered on the first pitch he saw, and the Astros earned their sixth straight win.

Lance McCullers Jr. (8-3) pitched seven innings of two-run ball. Ken Giles got three outs for his 11th save in 11 tries.

Correa was back in the lineup at shortstop after missing a series sweep at Texas with soreness in his right side.

Oakland’s Daniel Mengden (6-6) was charged with six runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

SEATTLE (AP) – Mitch Haniger and Ryon Healy each homered twice as the first-place Mariners shook off two homers by Mike Trout for the second consecutive night.

Trout took sole possession of the major league lead with 23 home runs. He also hit a pair in the Angels’ 5-3 loss Monday night at Safeco Field.

Mike Leake (7-3) allowed one run in six innings for Seattle, which has won three straight and 10 of 12. Edwin Diaz worked the ninth for his big league-best 25th save.

Angels right-hander Jaime Barria (5-2) surrendered two earned runs in five innings.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Joc Pederson, Max Muncy and Yasiel Puig homered off Bartolo Colon, sending the Dodgers to the victory.

The 45-year-old Colon (3-4) has allowed 19 homers this season. He recorded his 2 Semyon Varlamov Jersey ,500th career strikeout against Muncy in the first.

The Dodgers pounded out 16 hits in winning their second straight game.

Edward Paredes (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Daniel Corcino pitched three innings for his first save.

NEW YORK (AP) – Didi Gregorius homered twice for New York, Washington slugger Bryce Harper left in the eighth inning after he was hit by a pitch for the second time, and the Yankees earned their 10th win in 12 games.

Harper fell to the ground in pain when hit on the right elbow by a 90 mph pitch from CC Sabathia (4-1) in the fifth inning. The 2015 NL MVP came out after he was hit on the left foot by Dellin Betances‘ 89 mph slider leading off the eighth.

Gregorius drove a hanging curveball from Tanner Roark (3-7) into the Yankees bullpen in right-center during New York’s two-run second. He sent a fastball into the right-field second deck leading off the sixth for his fourth multihomer game.

Sabathia allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Chase Anderson pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, and the Brewers moved back into first in the NL Central.

Anderson (5-5) struck out six and walked two. The Brewers had been shut out in Anderson’s three most recent starts against Chicago.

Travis Shaw hit a pair of two-run doubles for Milwaukee, which had dropped seven in a row against Chicago.

Cubs right-hander Tyler Chatwood (3-5) worked five innings, yielding four runs, three earned, and five hits.

BALTIMORE (AP) – Home runs by Rafael Devers and Andrew Benintendi helped Eduardo Rodriguez win his fifth straight start, and Boston extended Baltimore’s losing streak to six games.

Rodriguez (8-1) gave up two runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings to increase a career-best run of success that began on May 20 against the Orioles.

Joey Rickard homered for the Orioles Roberto Luongo Jersey , who own the worst record in the big leagues (19-47). David Hess (2-3) stumbled in his sixth big league start, allowing five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Baltimore reliever Zach Britton made his season debut, six months after undergoing surgery for a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The lefty pitched a scoreless seventh.

CHICAGO (AP) – Yoan Moncada and Yolmer Sanchez homered to lead off Chicago’s three-run first, and James Shields won for the first time since opening day.

Shields (2-7) gave up one run and four hits in seven innings after going 12 starts and 13 appearances without a win. Joakim Soria got one out for his ninth save.

Moncada and Sanchez connected on consecutive pitches from Adam Plutko (3-1), helping the White Sox beat the AL Central leaders after losing their first four meetings this season.

Cleveland had won five of six.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Aaron Nola struck out 10 in another dominant performance and Scott Kingery hit a three-run homer, leading Philadelphia to the win.

Nola (8-2) allowed one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.27. Seranthony Dominguez escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the ninth for his third save.

Kingery drove a 1-2 pitch from Jon Gray (6-7) out to left-center to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead in the first. He added a sacrifice fly in the third.

The Phillies have won two in a row for the first time since a three-game winning streak May 13-17.

The Rockies have lost five straight and nine of 11.

Television viewership for the NFL’s divisional round playoff games was down 16 percent compared to last year Teez Tabor Jersey , offering ammunition to critics of the football league, but there are a couple of compelling explanations.

The weekend’s four games averaged 30.43 million viewers, off from 36.22 million the year before, the Nielsen company said. The NFL has received some blowback from President Donald Trump and his supporters for protests involving the National Anthem, with some suggesting that had something to do with the audience being smaller for games this season.

Last year had a blockbuster game between two rivals with national followings, Green Bay and Dallas, which reached more than 48 million viewers. Nothing came close this year, with the most-watched game, involving the furious finish between Minnesota and New Orleans, reaching 35.64 million people.

Two of last year’s games were also in prime-time, which naturally boosts the audience. This year only one of the games – Tennessee at New England – was in prime-time, and that was non-competitive.

CBS easily won the week in prime time, averaging 10.7 million viewers. Fox had 6.7 million, NBC had 4.6 million, ABC had 4.3 million, Univision had 1.5 million, ION Television had 1.2 million Christian Jones Jersey , Telemundo had 1.1 million and the CW had 1 million.

ESPN was the week’s most popular cable network, averaging 4.52 million viewers in prime-time. Fox News Channel had 2.15 million, MSNBC had 1.93 million, HGTV had 1.48 million and USA had 1.3 million.

ABC’s ”World News Tonight” topped the evening newscasts with an average of 9.9 million viewers. NBC’s ”Nightly News” had 9.7 million and the ”CBS Evening News” had 7.3 million.

For the week of Jan. 8-14, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: College Football Championship: Alabama vs. Georgia, ESPN, 27.7 million; NFL Playoff: Tennessee at New England, CBS, 26.69 million; ”NFL Playoff Post-Game,” Fox, 23.44 million; ”The Big Bang Theory,” CBS, 15.93 million; ”College Football Championship Pre-Game,” ESPN, 15.66 million; ”NCIS,” CBS Luke Willson Jersey , 14.24 million; ”Young Sheldon,” CBS, 14.17 million; ”College Football Championship Post-Game,” ESPN, 13.59 million; ”Bull,” CBS, 10.5 million; ”Blue Bloods,” CBS, 10.17 million.

ABC and ESPN are owned by The Walt Disney Co. CBS is owned by CBS Corp. CW is a joint venture of Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Corp. Fox is owned by 21st Century Fox. NBC and Telemundo are owned by Comcast Corp. ION Television is owned by ION Media Networks.

Giants closer Hunter Strickland broke his pitching hand punching a door in frustration after blowing the save and taking the loss in a 5-4 defeat to the Miami Marlins on Monday night.

The right-hander had surgery Tuesday and expected to be out six to eight weeks, manager Bruce Bochy said. An X-ray after the game revealed the break of Strickland’s pinkie, similar to what sidelined lefty ace Madison Bumgarner to begin the season after he was hurt in his final spring training start.

”I’m thoroughly disappointed, trust me. I’m crushed because this guy had just grown as a pitcher and a player and a person,” Bochy said. ”But I know Hunter, he cares. He cares deeply. He let his emotions get away … he had a temporary snap.”

Strickland blew his fourth save in 17 chances and second straight, allowing more than two runs for only the fourth time in his career.

He posted an apology on Instagram and Twitter.

”Life has an interesting and sometimes disappointing way of opening up our eyes,” Strickland wrote. ”Words cannot describe the amount of regret and sorrow I have for my actions. I have let down the ones that care and mean the most, as well as the ones that count on me day in and day out. To my family Michael Roberts Jersey , my teammates, my coaches, this organization, and our fan base, I am truly sorry that one split second, stupid decision has caused so much harm and now set me back from being out there with my team to pursue our goal.”

Bochy said Strickland had shown maturity and made progress keeping his emotions in check since last year’s fight with Nationals star Bryce Harper.

”I think he did it when he came out of the game but we didn’t know about it,” Bochy said. ”I didn’t know about it until I got home.”

In late May last year, Strickland ignited an all-out brawl when he beaned Harper with a 98 mph fastball on his first pitch in the eighth inning with two outs, none on and Washington ahead 2-0. Harper charged the mound and both men threw punches as benches and bullpens emptied.

”As he became our closer he really grew as a pitcher handling his emotions well in tight situations, which you have to. You have to be able to control your emotions,” Bochy said. ”I’ve talked about this so much, how important it is for players but particularly the closer’s got to have emotional control. We all get frustrated and that was a tough loss, a gut-wrenching loss which I’m sure he felt full responsibility for it and he just didn’t think before he acted.”

Sam Dyson and Tony Watson will be called upon for closing duties, with one getting most of the opportunities though Bochy didn’t reveal which one that would be. The manager doesn’t consider Mark Melancon – signed to a $62 million, four-year deal before last season to work the ninth – ready for the role after a series of injuries.

”Your closer is somebody who has to be resilient and I’m not sure that Mark’s at that stage right now,” Bochy said.

Right-hander Pierce Johnson was on his way from Triple-A Sacramento to take Strickland’s roster spot.

The New York Giants’ coaching search was delayed by a winter storm that dumped nearly a 1 1/2 feet of snow on some New Jersey shore towns.

The Giants had scheduled an interview Thursday with Eric Studesville Marquis Haynes Jersey , the recently fired Broncos’ running backs coach who had been in Denver since 2010 and was the interim head coach after Josh McDaniels’ firing that year.

Studesville now will be interviewed next week.

The National Weather Service said roughly six inches of snow fell in the Meadowlands area. Gov. Chris Christie ordered all state government offices closed.

New general manager Dave Gettleman will be in the New England area on Friday to interview McDaniels, the current Patriots’ offensive coordinator, and Matt Patricia, his defensive counterpart.

Interviews are planned this weekend with Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

The Giants (3-13) also plan to interview Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

The interview process started Wednesday with interim coach Steve Spagnuolo. He posted a 1-3 record after replacing Ben McAdoo on Dec. 4.

The site of next year’s Super Bowl already is celebrating a championship for best concessions.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons and MLS Atlanta United Ryan Getzlaf Jersey , finished first in a 2017 NFL fan survey for quality and value of food and beverages. The results released Thursday show the lowered prices, including $2 hot dogs, $3 pizza slices and $5 beer, were a big hit with fans. Those prices will remain in place for Atlanta’s Super Bowl in 2019.

The Falcons ranked 18th in surveys the last two years at the Georgia Dome before the 2017 debut season in the new $1.5 billion stadium. The lower prices led to more sales. Average spending per fan increased by 16 percent in 2017, according to the survey.

Falcons president and CEO Rich McKay said the survey reflects input from fans in planning for concessions.

”It means that we got it right by listening to them Ryan Kesler Jersey ,” McKay said. ”I think what makes us feel good is we really tried to pay attention to the feedback that our fans gave us on food and beverage, where we needed to make changes.”

The new stadium also placed first in the MLS food and beverage survey of 12 of 22 teams.

No. 11 is coming back for the Arizona Cardinals.

New Arizona coach Steve Wilks says wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald – arguably the most popular and certainly the most prolific player to don a Cardinals uniform – has told him he’ll return for a 15th NFL season.

Wilks made the comment Thursday in an interview on the ”Doug & Wolf” sports talk radio show. Wilks says Fitzgerald told him of his decision in a conversation Wednesday night.
Article continues below ...

So for at least one more season Youth Hayden Hurst Jersey , Fitzgerald will be scooping in the throws – from somebody – and laying down some blocks for David Johnson.

There was a quick response from teammate and golfing partner, cornerback Patrick Peterson.

”Wouldn’t be the same without him,” Peterson said on twitter, with a photo of Fitzgerald hugging him.

Added safety Tyrann Mathieu, also on twitter, ”11 for 15. Welcome back Legend.”

Fitzgerald hadn’t said publicly whether he would remain for another season and there was speculation he might follow the lead of coach Bruce Arians and quarterback Carson Palmer, who both retired after last season.

The 34-year-old Fitzgerald is one of the most prolific receivers in the game’s history, ranking third on the NFL career lists for receptions and yards receiving. He finished second in the NFL with 109 catches last season.

He returns even though there is no quarterback on the Arizona roster. General manager Steve Keim has said the team will move aggressively to fill that void, through free agency, trade or the draft – or any combination thereof.

Fitzgerald has caught passes from 17 quarterbacks since being drafted No. 3 overall by Arizona in 2004.

Although Jerry Rice’s NFL career records are out of reach, Fitzgerald has a good shot at moving up to No. 2. He needs 92 catches to top for second in career receptions and 390 yards receiving to pass Terrell Owens for No. 2 in that category.

Fitzgerald has one year and $11 million remaining on his contract and most indications were he was leaning toward giving it at least one more season.

New offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said Fitzgerald was the first player he reached out to and that the receiver said he was excited about the prospects of the coming season.

Fitzgerald has missed only six games in his career and has caught a pass in 211 consecutive contests, tied with Tony Gonzalez for second all-time. He has topped 100 catches and 1,000 yards receiving each of the alst three years and Baker Mayfield Jersey Elite , last season, was selected to the Pro Bowl for the 11th time. Among wide receivers, only Rice has been selected more often.

He shared Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year honors with Eli Manning a year ago.

For the second night in a row, a young San Francisco pitcher shut down the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This time, Dereck Rodriguez blanked them into the seventh inning and the Giants made it two straight wins in Arizona with a 7-0 victory Saturday.

Rodriguez’s performance came a night after Andrew Suarez allowed one run in six innings during San Francisco’s 2-1 series-opening victory. The NL West-leading Diamondbacks have managed just one run in the last 18 innings.

”It’s big,” Rodriguez said. ”They’re leading our division and we come in and shut them down. That’s big for our team and our pitching staff, gives us some momentum.”

Brandon Crawford, Andrew McCutchen and Joe Panik homered on another rough night for Shelby Miller, who struggled in his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery.

Panik’s homer, off reliever Jimmie Sherfy in the eighth, was his first since April 3, a span of 162 at-bats.

Ty Blach and Cory Gearrin completed San Francisco’s 10th shutout of the season.

”Overall just a well-played game,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ”We got the hits Browns Baker Mayfield Jersey , the runs to give us a cushion there and what a job Rodriguez did. He followed up a great start. He’s been throwing the ball terrific.”

The Giants have won nine of 11 to pull into a tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers for second in the NL West, 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Diamondbacks. San Francisco can complete a three-game road sweep on Sunday.

Since returning from an 8-2 trip, the Diamondbacks have dropped two to the Giants by a combined score of 9-1.

”An unfortunate offensive night for us once again,” manager Torey Lovullo said. ”We didn’t build as big of innings as last night but we had a couple opportunities and we really couldn’t cash in.”

Rodriguez (3-1), the son of Hall of Fame catcher Ivan ”Pudge” Rodriguez, dominated in his sixth major league start. He allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings, struck out five and walked two. In his last two starts, the 26-year-old right-hander has given up one run in 13 1/3 innings.

Miller (0-2) was tagged for six runs and seven hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked one, throwing 96 pitches. In his debut Monday night at Miami, Miller gave up five runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 9-5 loss to the Marlins.

Miller said he is past being satisfied with getting through an outing healthy.

”We are getting close to the All-Star break and we are playing division teams that are right behind us trying to get first place away from us and I am going out there and not pitching well,” he said. ”That is more what I am upset about. I am not really focused on the little positives that I can take from coming back from a major surgery, which is a pretty big deal, but it is getting at that point in the season where we have to win ballgames Youth Tremaine Edmunds Jersey , and every single one that we can.”

Crawford and McCutchen each had a solo home run off Miller – Crawford in the second and McCutchen in the fourth.

Arizona’s real trouble came in San Francisco’s four-run third, which included five singles. One of them, a dribbler up the middle by Pablo Sandoval, drove in two runs. Crawford walked with the bases loaded to bring in another run.

With right-handers Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija due back from the disabled list soon, there might not be room for Rodriguez and/or Suarez in the rotation.

”We want our guys back but at the same time when they’re throwing like this it does give you the luxury of making sure your guys are ready,” Bochy said. ”Depth is going to be so important. We’re at the halfway point. You never know what can happen and it’s been great the way Suarez and Rodriguez have come up here and handled themselves.”

Giants: Cueto (right elbow sprain) threw four scoreless innings Friday night in his second rehab appearance for Triple-A Sacramento. He allowed four hits, struck out six and walked one.

Diamondbacks: INF Ketel Marte left with a right leg injury after beating out an infield single leading off the seventh. He was able to walk off under his own power. Lovullo said afterward it was a cramp and Marte is day to day. … CF A.J. Pollock (broken left thumb) went 0 for 4 with Triple-A Reno in his first rehab game Friday night.

Left-hander Derek Holland (5-7, 4.24 ERA) starts for the Giants in their bid for a three-game sweep. RHP Zack Godley (9-5, 4.58) goes for Arizona.
