Forest School Leader/Assistant - Bank/Ad-hoc

Summary

 

We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic forest school leader (qualified) or assistant (unqualified) that will be able to inspire children of all ages to engage in memorable and educational outdoor experiences and use imagination and creativity to plan and deliver a wide range of different sessions. These sessions could be planned and delivered independently or as part of a team, and could include Acorn nursery sessions, holiday club sessions, external nursery & school sessions, family sessions, home-educated sessions, parent-toddler sessions, bushcraft sessions, and special educational needs sessions.

 

This role will be on a zero hour contract and sessions you work on can therefore be planned around your current work and/or life commitments. With some work available during term time, and significantly more available work in school holidays, Acorn will support you with any childcare needs, including significant discounts at our very popular forest school holiday club.

Lunchtime Assistant, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire

We are looking for a Part Time Nursery Assistant working 20 hours per week (experience within an Early Years setting and/or level L2 in Early Years desirable ) to join our nursery in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.

Forest School Leader

Summary

We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic Level 3 qualified forest school leader that will be able to inspire children of all ages to engage in memorable and educational outdoor experiences and use imagination and creativity to plan and deliver a wide range of different sessions. These sessions could be planned and delivered independently or as part of a team, and could include Acorn nursery sessions, holiday club sessions, external nursery & school sessions, family sessions, home-educated sessions, parent-toddler sessions, bushcraft sessions, and special educational needs sessions.

Ideally working 35 hours per week there will be flexible working hours that may vary across the seasons. Occasional weekend work may be required, usually to deliver family sessions or birthday parties, but this will occur no more than one day per month. Travel will be required for sessions taking place all over Milton Keynes, Northants, and Bedfordshire; a full UK driving license is therefore essential.

Duties and responsibilities 

  • To plan, deliver and evaluate a wide range of forest school sessions and programmes, including (but not limited to) Acorn nursery sessions, holiday club sessions, external nursery & school sessions, family sessions, home-educated sessions, parent-toddler sessions, bushcraft sessions, and special needs sessions. These sessions could be planned and delivered independently, or as part of a team.
  • To plan and deliver high-quality activities aimed at meeting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of the children, considering their individual needs and the ethos of Acorn.
  • To be responsive and aware of the individual needs of children, using eye contact and body language to encourage their attention and participation.
  • To help maintain high standards of care at all times, and contributing to maintaining a culture which is caring, stimulating, welcoming and safe.
  • To be responsible for preparing all resources, equipment and food required for any sessions they are leading.
  • To be responsible for the safe checking, cleaning, maintenance and storage of tools, rope and other forest school and bush craft equipment.
  • To carry out and maintain all relevant risk assessments and risk-benefit assessments.
  • To work collaboratively with the wider forest school team and maintain effective communication at all times.
  • To support forest school assistants and L3 trainees in their role, acting as a mentor for these colleagues as appropriate.
  • To promote forest schools and outdoor provisions across the organisation, inspiring other staff to deliver outdoor activities with children as appropriate.
  • To drive the minibus for children attending Acorn settings and external settings, usually to and from forest school sites.
  • To support and cover in Acorn nurseries and out of school clubs as required, although usually only when no forest school session is taking place.
  • To be aware of, and to implement effectively, all Acorn policies and procedures.

Essential requirements 

  • To have completed, training towards, or willing to train towards, a L3 Certificate for Forest School Leaders.
  • To hold, or willing to gain, a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course with Paediatric First Aid included
  • To have at least two years’ experience of delivering forest school, outdoor learning, or other relevant sessions with children, ideally working with a wide range of age groups including school-age
  • To have demonstrable experience of delivering outdoor sessions in all seasons and weathers, with enthusiasm
  • To be enthusiastic, caring and organised, with excellent communication skills and good sense of imitative
  • To have a sound knowledge of the forest school ethos, EYFS, health & safety, and safeguarding practices
  • To have a license to drive a minibus (D1 entitlement) with updated training in the last five years, or the desire to undertake/update D1 minibus training.

Desirable requirements 

  • To have completed another relevant L3 qualification, such as Early Years, Playwork or TA
  • To have experience in a senior position in a nursery, school, or other care/educational environment, with some management responsibilities
  • To have previous experience working towards Ofsted requirements
  • To have demonstrable experience leading a specific activity or session, such as scouts/guide groups, pioneering, geocaching, orienteering, foraging, sports coaching, etc.

      Job Description

      ​Summary

      ​Acorn Early Years Foundation is a diverse organisation operating 13 nurseries and a catering service, amongst other provisions, and we are proud to offer fresh, nutritious, and high-quality meals to over 1500 children. Nine of Acorn’s nurseries have their own high-standard kitchens and chefs, whilst the remaining four receiving meals from our catering team, based at our hub kitchen in Shenley Church End, who also provide meals for a further five external nurseries.

      We are looking for a relief chef that is able to support and cover in Acorn’s kitchens throughout Milton Keynes, and ideally Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. The ability to drive with access to own vehicle is therefore essential. In the absence of nursery chefs or kitchen assistants, this role will cover in nursery kitchens or the hub kitchen in order to ensure high quality and nutritious meals continue to be served all year round.

      ​The pro-rata rate of pay is between £19,760 - £26,000 per annum (based on 40 hour contract), depending on the experience and responsibilities that the post holder takes on. A contract of between 30-40 hours per week can be offered, depending on the preferences of the individual. This role offers sociable working hours with usual full time shifts running 8am-5pm – although some flexibility with working hours may be required, such as earlier shifts (starting 6am) when covering in the hub kitchen.

               Duties and responsibilities

      • To cover in all Acorn kitchens in order to prepare, cook and serve food to a high standard in a timely manner, in accordance with each setting’s menu and recipe manual
      • To understand and adhere to all Acorn kitchen policies and procedures, taking into consideration the individual needs and processes at each setting
      • To promote best practice in all kitchens, and support/advise staff as required in relation to allergies, nutrition, and food safety
      • To make suitable adaptations to meals/snacks and liaise with key staff as appropriate; adaptations may be needed for babies and younger children, allergies, intolerances, and/or preferences
      • To maintain kitchen diaries and other key kitchen paperwork in the absence of the chef
      • To support staff in each setting with ordering from suppliers as required in the absence of the chef
      • To understand and comply with all relevant legislation, especially regarding safe working practices, hygiene practices, food safety, fire procedures and staff training
      • To support with environmental health inspections as required
      • To attend relevant meetings, work closely with other chefs and staff in the settings, and to undertake training as required
      • To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Operations Manager or Nursery Managers

        Essential requirements

      • To have at least two years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen with the ability to cook to a high standard
      • To have recently completed, or be willing to complete, a L3 in Food Hygiene and Safety
      • To have an excellent understanding of key food safety requirements, including hygiene, cleaning, temperature control, storage, pest control, HACCP, COSHH among others
      • To be flexible and willing to travel to different sites to run their kitchen, sometimes at short notice
      • To be able to work independently, follow recipes, and maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment
      • To be a good communicator and a good listener

      Senior Practitioner

      An exciting opportunity to be a Level 3 (minimum) qualified Senior Early Years Practitioner to lead a room of practitioners to provide the highest quality of care at our upcoming nursery in Emberton, Milton Keynes (MK19) is now available.

      We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, inspirational, and knowledgeable Senior Practitioner, who has either experience in leading a room or someone ready to take the next step in their career for our Acorn’s room working specifically with the babies to 2 year old page group. â€‹â€‹
